Driving lessons in Sligo, taught by people who know the Carraroe routes.
One test centre in the county, out on the Old Dublin Road. We know the Carraroe Roundabout, the Pearse Road cycle lane and where they do the reverse in Caltragh. Learn on the roads you will actually be tested on.
Your test is at Carraroe. We know the routes.
The Sligo centre passed 52.6% of car tests in 2023, just above the 52.3% national average (RSA figures). Most learners think the test is luck on the day. Actually, it is the route, and in a one-centre county there is only one to learn. Learn it well, and you give yourself the best shot at the right side of that number.
Sligo Test Centre (Carraroe)
Lessons in your town, not a two-hour drive away.
Sligo is spread out, from the town and the coast to Tubbercurry and Ballymote in the south. We match you with an instructor who covers your end of the county.
Sligo roads, taught by local instructors.
Most people pick a driving school on price. That is how you end up with an instructor who has never driven your test routes. Sligo has one test centre, in Carraroe on the south side of town, and the test pulls you straight onto the R287 and into the roundabouts. Knowing that beforehand is worth more than a cheap hour.
Sligo is not flat town driving. It is hills, coast and lakes. You get the busy bit through the centre, the cycle lane on Pearse Road, the yellow boxes around Hughes Bridge, and then the open roads out toward Strandhill, Collooney and the Ox Mountains. A good lesson covers all of it, because the examiner can take you anywhere within a few kilometres of the centre.
The pass rate at the Sligo centre was 52.6% in 2023, a shade above the national average. The people who pass are not lucky. They have driven the Carraroe Roundabout enough times that it feels ordinary. That is the whole job: make the test feel like another Tuesday.
The roads you will learn on
- N4The main road south and east to Carrick-on-Shannon, Longford and on to Dublin. The dual carriageway carries most of the town traffic.
- N15North toward Bundoran and Donegal, crossing the Garavogue at Hughes Bridge. Faster open road once you clear Sligo.
- N17South-west to Tubbercurry, Charlestown and on to Galway. A busy single carriageway linking the south of the county.
- N16East toward Manorhamilton and Blacklion. Starts at the Duck Street junction and climbs quickly out of Sligo.
- R292 / R291The coast roads to Strandhill and Rosses Point. Popular with tourists, so expect cyclists, walkers and parked cars near the beaches.
- Hills and lakesThe Ox Mountains and Lough Gill mean bends, gradients and the odd sheep. Hill starts and reading the road matter here.

The things people ask us about Sligo.
Where will I sit my test in Sligo?
At the Sligo test centre on the Old Dublin Road in Carraroe, F91 VK11, on the south side of town. It is the only car test centre in the county, so wherever you are in Sligo, this is where you will go.
Do you cover the south and west of the county too?
Yes. We line up lessons across Sligo, from Tubbercurry, Ballymote and Collooney in the south to Enniscrone and the coast in the west, and up around Grange and Mullaghmore. Tell us your town and we will sort your local instructor.
How many lessons will I actually need?
It depends where you are starting. Complete beginners do the twelve Essential Driver Training lessons. If you have driven before, you might want a handful of pretest lessons on the Carraroe routes to get sharp. We will give you an honest read after the first one.
Can I learn in an automatic?
Yes, we have manual and automatic. One thing to know: pass your test in an automatic and your full licence is automatic only. Pass in a manual and you can drive both. If you are not sure, ask your instructor and pick what suits you.
Your Sligo instructor is a two-minute form away.
No payment now. Pick your town, and we will route you to a local instructor who knows the Carraroe test.
